La Jolla Playhouse is seeking to fill the following positions:
Classification: Part Time – Non-Exempt (Hourly) – 20-35 hours per week, flexible schedule
Reports to: Scenery Supervisors
Compensation: $28.00 – $34.00 per hour (DOE)
The Draftsperson plays a crucial role in the production process by translating scenic design concepts into detailed technical drawings. They work under the direction of the Scenery Supervisors and closely with the Scenic Designer to create accurate and comprehensive drafting plans that guide the construction of scenic elements for La Jolla Playhouse productions. Using identified materials and methods of construction, the Draftsperson creates 3D AutoCAD models and drawings for all scenic elements.

Classification: Full Time, IATSE Local 122, Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Reports to: Scenery Supervisors
Compensation: $34.00 – $39.00 per hour (DOE)
The Lead Carpenter is the point person for all scenic construction and load in. They lead carpenters, riggers, and automation techs in the safe and successful execution of all scenic elements, including interdepartmental rigging. They actively communicate across departments to ensure a smooth load in process. The Lead Stage Carpenter collaborates with the Scenery Leadership Team in the development of load-in and strike schedules. They assign tasks and oversee crewmembers to carry out those plans in a safe and efficient manner.

Classification: Full-Time – Seasonal approx. 22-40 weeks/year, IATSE Hourly, Non-Exempt
Reports to: Production Electrician
Compensation: Department Head Rate, IATSE Local 122 – Currently $32.57 per hour, negotiable
Under the direction of the Production Electrician, the Moving Light Programmer serves as a key member of La Jolla Playhouse’s Production Department Staff. The position is expected to function in a fast-paced and detail-critical environment, working closely with both the Production Electrician and visiting Lighting Designers to program moving light and conventional lighting rigs and run an EOS-based console for, at minimum, all tech weeks for all La Jolla Playhouse productions.
