Teen Council

Playhouse Teen Council (PTC) is an advocacy and advisory group involving creative and dynamic high school students throughout San Diego County who demonstrate strong leadership qualities and a passion for theatre. The purpose of PTC is to foster the next generation of theatre leaders and professionals through cultivated educational & interactive experiences with La Jolla Playhouse.

La Jolla Playhouse strongly believes in uplifting the youth voices of our diverse San Diego community. PTC is an inclusive, supportive space that invites teens of all backgrounds, including, but certainly not limited to: all ethnicities, genders, sexualities, gender expressions and all economic backgrounds, to join us in our work. As representatives of La Jolla Playhouse, PTC strongly believes that theatre has the power to be a catalyst for social justice within our community, and furthermore believes in the power of the artist to be a global changemaker.

PTC members will learn the inner workings of a nonprofit professional theatre, attract young audiences and positively contribute to our community’s theatre culture. PTC has the opportunity to meet the artists and experts who bring La Jolla Playhouse’s shows to its audiences. Members will participate in seminars, complete projects, attend LJP shows, workshops, talkbacks and learn about the artistic vision of the Playhouse. They also plan and host events throughout the year that celebrate the Playhouse’s offerings as well as each member’s love of theatre. Each event brings young people to the Playhouse, building on the strong following for challenging live theatre that exists in San Diego.

All new applicants will be asked to identify their commitment level by applying to be a part of either the CREATIVE TEAM or ENSEMBLE (both incredibly important to the success of our council!) PTC members serve a term that is generally the length of one academic year. Meetings are held from 4:30 – 6:00 or 6:30pm on the first and third Monday of every month, first meeting for new members will be October 17, 2022. Learn more by reading the application below.
