Directed by Marc Bruni

IS IT
THURSDAY YET?

JUL – AUG 2023
FORUM THEATRE

Created, Choreographed and Performed by Jenn Freeman
Created, Choreographed and Directed by Sonya Tayeh

Is It Thursday Yet? invites you into the unique complexities of dancer/choreographer Jenn Freeman’s neurodivergent brain through a stunning tapestry of dance, live music, home video footage and audio narrations. This inventive work celebrates what it means to live a life on the spectrum.

THE UNTITLED UNAUTHORIZED
HUNTER S. THOMPSON MUSICAL
SEP – OCT 2023
POTIKER THEATRE

Music and lyrics by Joe Iconis
Book by Joe Iconis and Gregory S. Moss
Directed by Christopher Ashley

Who was Hunter S. Thompson? He changed journalism. He defined counterculture. Equal parts philosopher, clown and genius, he was armed and dangerous with a typewriter as his preferred weapon. Set to an anarchic and tuneful score, this musical is a rock ‘n’ roll portrait of an artist seeking greatness and coming to terms with his own legacy.

SUMO

FORUM THEATRE

Written by Lisa Sanaye Dring
Directed by Ralph B. Peña
A co-production with Ma-Yi Theater Company

Entrenched in an elite sumo training facility in Tokyo, six men practice, eat, love, play and ultimately fight. This tenderly drawn and unique work about Akio, the ambitious newcomer, and his fellow wrestlers features live taiko drumming.

BABBITT
NOV – DEC 2023
WEISS THEATRE

By Joe DiPietro
Adapted from the novel by Sinclair Lewis
Directed by Christopher Ashley

Award-winning star Matthew Broderick and Tony Award-winning playwright Joe DiPietro (Diana, Memphis) join forces with our own Christopher Ashley for this comedic, unmissable theatrical event based on a literary classic.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND USEFUL INFO

What is a subscription and why is it the best option?

A subscription is a package of 6 plays or 4 plays.

A subscription is more cost effective than purchasing single tickets on a casual basis through the year. It gives you access to the best available seats, savings of up to 20% on single ticket prices and a range of other exclusive benefits, including early access to special offers, no transaction fees, free parking and free exchanges. Check out the top benefits here.

Additionally, a subscription is an excellent way to support La Jolla Playhouse’s work and provides a vital foundation to ensure we can continue to advance theatre as an art form, tell stories that inspire and create a dialogue toward a more just future.

When can I purchase a subscription?

From Nov 30, existing subscribers can renew their subscription during an exclusive priority window.

From Dec 13, new subscribers can purchase a new subscription. Renewals are processed first, then new subscriptions are processed in order of receipt.

The first play of the season begins in June 2023.

Can I book tickets to individual plays?

Tickets to individual plays go on sale in 2023, closer to the run dates. In the meantime, plays are available as part of a subscription.

Join our email list to be sent a reminder when single tickets go on sale.

Can I exchange tickets to another date?

One of the benefits of your subscription is fee-free exchanges, guaranteed. You can exchange into another date of the same production, subject to availability.

How are my tickets sent to me?

You will receive a transaction confirmation email immediately – this confirms that your subscription will be processed in order of receipt. Tickets with specific performance dates are mailed to you in Spring 2023. Take advantage of your free exchange perk to adjust your subscription dates as needed.

I have money on my account. Can I use this?

Yes, if you have money on your Playhouse account, you can apply this towards your subscription or single tickets. To find out how much you have remaining, and to utilize these funds toward your 2023/24 subscription renewal, you can renew online at lajollaplayhouse.org/renew or by calling Patron Services at (858) 550-1010.

Can I make a Group Booking?

Yes, the more the merrier! A Group Subscription is a wonderful way to plan enjoyable outings with your friends, family, colleagues or social group.

Book online – You can book for groups of up to 10 people online. This is the quickest and easiest way to access the best available seats.
Group 10+ – For groups over 10 people, please call (858) 550-1010 or email [email protected] and we will work with you to plan for your Group’s needs and find the best seats.

What is a ‘First Look’ show?

‘First Look’ is the first week of the run of each production. A First Look subscription is lower price, and offers the opportunity to experience the show while the creative team are still polishing and making changes. The director usually addresses the audience briefly at the beginning of each First Look show.

What safety procedures does La Jolla Playhouse have in place?

The health and safety of audiences, artists, staff, volunteers and our community are our highest priority. Please read our most current safety policy here.

Can I select my seats?

Subscribers select the seating area when you order. If you have specific requests, please add them to the notes section within the purchase path when booking online, or the relevant section on your invoice form.

We encourage you to order swiftly to ensure you get the pick of the best seats – orders are processed in order of receipt.
