An outdoor event for audiences of all ages
Tuesday, September 14
5:00 – 6:00 pm
Weiss Lawn, La Jolla Playhouse
Chairs & blankets provided
Join La Jolla Playhouse for a special first look at our 2022 Performance Outreach Program (POP) Tour, HOOPLA! During this outdoor reading, actors will read the script aloud together in front of an audience for the first time. We love to have our young audiences enjoy the reading and afterwards, tell us their thoughts! This feedback from our audiences helps our playwrights as they continue to develop their play. HOOPLA! will be fun for audience members of all ages, but is perfect for kids in grades 3-6.
COVID-19 Safety: Masks required for all adults and children over 2 years old. Proof of vaccination or negative PCR COVID-19 test taken within 48-hours for all attendees 12 and older. Learn More.
Parking: Free in Osler Parking Structure at the corner of Gilman and Scholars Drive. Enter the garage on Gilman Drive and look for the attendant with complimentary parking passes to display on your dashboard. Complimentary shuttles between the parking structure and the Playhouse begin 4:00 pm and will run after the reading. To access the shuttle, go to Level 4, North Lobby pedestrian exit in the Osler structure. Masks are required to ride the shuttle.
Additionally, there is a newly paved and well-lit walking path from Osler up Scholar’s Drive to the Playhouse. The walk is 0.30 miles, with a mild uphill ascent. Comfortable walking shoes are encouraged. Finally, the front of the theatre complex also offers a new drop off location for patrons who take a ride-share service, or for those who like to drop off some of their party at the theatre before parking. The fifth grade talent show is approaching, and everyone is abuzz at Baldwin Elementary. Winston wants to win the talent show with his cheerleading routine to prove to others that he’s more than the unfriendly “Fishboy” nickname they call him. Introverted artist Gina wants nothing to do with the talent show, and she knows that the overzealous (and generally unpleasant) twin sensations, Randy and Brandy, are probably going to win it all anyway. But with the persistence of Elliott, the school’s new kid and resident rebel, these unlikely friends form Hoopla, a dazzling hula hooping trio, and help each other navigate through the pressures of being a kid.
