Bar and Concessions

Concessions opens 60 min before showtime, serving drinks and snacks. Concession drinks with lids will be allowed in the theatre, but no food is allowed in the theatre.

Take Pictures! Don’t record.

Silence your phone and any other noise-making devices, and avoid using your bright screens during performances.

We want you to remember this moment so we welcome you to take pictures and videos in our lobby spaces and share online. (Remember to tag us!) Recording and photography of the set and performance in the theatre is prohibited.

Late Seating

It is our aim to start performances at the advertised time. Out of respect for the cast, for safety and to ensure minimum disruption to fellow theatre-goers, latecomers may need to wait until an appropriate break or intermission to enter the theatre. Latecomers are directed to standing room or another seat at the discretion of the House Manager, and may take their assigned seats at intermission. La Jolla Playhouse accepts no responsibility for inconvenience to latecomers.

Children, Babes in Arms and Age Recommendations

In general, La Jolla Playhouse’s performances are intended for adult audiences. La Jolla Playhouse generally advises that our shows are appropriate for young people aged 12-13 and up due to some instances of adult themes and language. Where there are exceptions, this is mentioned in the content guidance provided for each show, and communicated with ticket holders through pre-show reminders.

We understand sensitivities vary from person to person, and encourage parents to use their best judgment when deciding to bring teens or younger children. If you have questions about content or age-appropriateness beyond what the content guidance provides, please get in touch with our Patron Services team at [email protected] or (858) 550-1010 and we’ll be happy to give you more info.

Children under the age of 6 and babes in arms are not permitted in the theatre during performances, unless the performance is specifically for children. Unaccompanied minors ages 12 and under are not permitted in the theatre.

Safety in the Theatre District

La Jolla Playhouse works with the UCSD Police Department and UCSD Transportation and Parking Services, which operates the parking lot and security system, to maintain and improve security conditions for patrons and staff.

Patrons and staff are welcome to use UCSD Community Service Officers (CSOs) for an escort to their cars by calling (858) 534-WALK (9255). If you have more questions about security please contact UCSD Police at (858) 534-HELP (4357). The CSO Program employs only UCSD students.

Call extension (858) 534-WALK or (858) 534-9255 for a safety escort. Community Service Officers (CSOs) offer this service from sunset to 1 a.m. every day of the year. After 1 a.m., this service may be handled by other police department personnel.

In addition to serving as safety escorts, CSOs also:

  • Patrol parking lots
  • Lock up buildings
  • Provide additional security at campus events
  • Assist with medical emergencies
