La Jolla Playhouse offers a series of fun, interactive theatre training programs throughout the summer through its Young Performers or [email protected] programs, including Young Performers’ Workshop (YPW) for grades 3 – 12, Young Performers’ Academy (YPA) for grades 5 – 12, Conservatory for grades 10 – 12 and Technical Theatre Training (Tech) for grades 7 – 12.
In a fun-filled environment, performers are divided into age-appropriate groups and study acting, improvisation, musical theatre and stage movement.
Building upon the four principles of YPW: acting, improvisation, movement and musical theatre, YPA students will discover new ways to apply these skills by creating an original performance and learning the process of developing a script. Working with a director, a final presentation will take place at the end of the program for the community.
La Jolla Playhouse offers students grades 10-12 an intensive five-week experience to prepare for a serious college program.
An introductory survey course in the vocational skills necessary to become professional theatre technicians, including: costumes, props and scenic building and painting.
