Join us (virtually!) for a week this summer as we explore the devised theatre process and collaborate as an ensemble. Your child, now one of our “Lab Technicians,” will participate in theatre games, team building exercises, and improvisation to create a new piece of theatre that will be performed for friends and family. Join us for one week or multiple weeks. We will produce a new play each week.
For grades 6–8 and 9–12
Week 1: July 6 – 10
Week 2: July 27 – 31
La Jolla Playhouse offers students grades 10-12 an intensive five-week experience to prepare for a serious college program.
Begins Monday, July 20, 2020 at 5:00 pm
What makes a great piece of theater? Or a compelling character? This class will teach you about the elements of playwriting, including character, setting, plot, and dialogue, as well as give you an opportunity to write to idea-generating prompts and engage in brainstorming activities. This class is geared toward beginning writers, but is useful for those with some playwriting background to put their skills to work. By the end, participants will have created an outline, a scene, or even a short play. Review sessions by both the instructor and group will aide in constructive, safe feedback. This class is for students ages 13-17.
Monday evenings, 5:00 – 6:30 pm (7 weeks), July 20 – August 31, 2020
Registration is closed.
