We are excited to share some wonderful news about Diana: A True Musical Story. This Playhouse-born show, which premiered with you a year-and-a-half ago during our 2018/2019 Season, will be filmed for Netflix and will air nationwide in early 2021!
The production will be filmed, directed by our own Christopher Ashley, on the stage of the Longacre Theater next month and will feature the original Broadway cast, including Jeanna de Waal as “Diana,” Roe Hartrampf as “Prince Charles,” Erin Davie as “Camilla Parker Bowles” and two-time Tony Award winner Judy Kaye as “Queen Elizabeth” – all of whom starred in the Playhouse production in 2019.
This marks the first time a theatrical event will have its streaming premiere before its opening night on Broadway. As you know, Diana transferred to Broadway following its sold-out, extended run at the Playhouse. The show went on hiatus due to the pandemic before its scheduled Broadway opening on March 31, 2020. The musical is now set to open on Broadway in May 2021.
None of this would have been possible without all of the amazing support of you, our dedicated patrons. You were the first to witness the development of this brand new production at the Playhouse, and now it will stream in homes across the country. The impact of the Playhouse on the national theatre – and now streaming – scene is remarkable. Thank you for being a part of this musical’s, and the Playhouse’s, incredible journey!
