Little Amal, the 12-foot puppet of a 10-year-old Syrian refugee girl, is completing her journey across the U.S. in San Diego, where she is spreading her story of hope as she discovers the beating heart of America, its blended culture and diverse people.
Join La Jolla Playhouse and friends in welcoming Little Amal to San Diego! At this family friendly event in Balboa Park, Little Amal will be greeted by local artists of all ages in a joyous adventure that explores the power of community, art, and friendship. With over 50 artists creating a magical tapestry of live music, dance, and song, Amal will see just what makes the park so inviting.

Amal’s walk will take about one hour and cover a distance of approximately 0.3 miles, starting at The Old Globe Plaza and ending at the Bea Evenson Fountain (between The Natural History Museum and The Fleet Science Center).

From all corners of the globe, people have welcomed The Walk with Amal (@walkwithamal) with open arms and hearts. Little Amal, a 12 foot puppet of a 10 year old Syrian refugee child at the heart of The Walk, has become a global symbol of human rights, especially those of refugees.
Since July 2021, Amal has traveled over 6,000 miles to 14 countries, and been welcomed by more than a million people on the street, including hundreds of artists and civil society and faith leaders, as well as by tens of millions online.
Between 7 September and 26 November 2023, Amal is journeying 11,000 miles across the United States and Mexico in one of the largest free public festivals ever created. 40 towns and cities from Boston to San Diego and 6 cities from Tijuana to Tapachula will create 100+ free public events to welcome her.
The puppet of Little Amal was designed and built by Handspring Puppet Company.
