FIREBIRD
April 24 @ 8:15 pm - 9:25 pm
Free
Inspired by composer Igor Stravinsky’s 1919 “Firebird Suite”, Amsterdam arts collective Touki Delphine brings you the most out-of-this-world concert experience you’ve never seen. FIREBIRD is a rule-breaking, eye-popping electronic concert and an extraterrestrial installation in one — including an “orchestra” made of light. Illuminated by over 600 recycled car taillights, you will experience the dance of the firebird bursting to life in a way that is hard to describe. Don’t miss this hypnotic event.
“An immersive experience, a phenomenal experiment in form, a pagan ritual.” – The Theaterkrant
“As if God were video-gaming on stained glass windows from the scrapyard.” – The Volkskrant
“An epic update of Stravinsky’s Firebird.” – The Standaard
Artist
Bo Koek, Rik Elstgeest, John van Oostrum & Chris Doyle are Touki Delphine, an artist collective of musicians, performers and visual artists from Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The members draw from their eclectic backgrounds to create stimulating visual art and modern music performances. In their multidimensional works, they pull from classic and modern musics from all corners of the globe, and combine reinterpretations with original compositions and new visual concepts crossing and blurring disciplinary boundaries. Committed and resourceful. Serious and playful. An open question or visual stimulant can form a point of departure. Their methods result in a unique, dynamic cross-pollination of the arts.
The work of Touki Delphine is inspired by the climate crisis and the insights of natural science that nature is a living whole, not a dysfunctional mass – using recycled materials, Touki Delphine creates installations that explore a restoration of balance between nature, technology and humans. Our collective discarded technology is salvaged and given a new life in their performances. Although abstract, they inevitably portray nature, capturing its inspiring beauty and power, offering a stimulating and contemplative experience for the human audience.
