the citywide theatre festivals prevalent in Europe, the Without Walls Festival features over 20 theatre and art performances by local, national and international artists brought together by Festival founder La Jolla Playhouse and partners UC San Diego, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) and the New Children's Museum.
The artistic and cultural hub of the Festival will be centered at the Festival Village at La Jolla Playhouse, with productions radiating out from its core to the UC San Diego campus, La Jolla Shores beach and other San Diego locations.
There is no charge to enter the Festival Village* and all ticketed performances are accessibly-priced from $5 to $25. Within the Festival Village attendees can enjoy numerous performances, take a break in the beer garden with the live music stage, grab lunch from a selection of San Diego’s best food trucks and meet the artists in artistic chats presented throughout the day.
Festival-goers who want the best possible experience can purchase a VIP Pass which allows access to the private RIVIERA VIP LOUNGE with hosted wine, beer and snacks; valet parking anytime they are on site; one ticket to three productions of their choice and much more.
Festival programming will be a diverse selection of productions with something to offer all ages and tastes – from the family-friendly construction site We Built This City to Platonov, an adult experience that is part Shakespeare in the park, part drive-in movie. MCASD will launch festivities with their signature “TNT” event on Thursday evening.
With so much on offer, patrons will be able to build a Festival experience that suits them perfectly. Whether they spend a day in the Festival Village enjoying the free performances and community environment or craft a four-day schedule of exciting and new theatre, they will be taking part in a part in stimulating new event.
This unparalleled Festival will shine a national spotlight on San Diego as it brings site-specific work never before seen in the States to our community. As the first of what will be a biennial event, the WoW Festival is a perfect fit for San Diego — an innovative, outdoor artistic event for a burgeoning arts city.
*There is a $10 charge to attend the TNT event on Thursday, October 3.
