WORKSHOP: How to Write an Opening Number
Join TuYo Theatre’s Mario Vega and Eliza Vedar as they discuss the construction of opening numbers in musical theatre. Learn their process for the opening number of Pásale Pásale in the WOW festival and brief history of their work, then learn to sing the music from Pásale Pásale with these fabulous artists.

Eliza Vedar (She/They) is a multifaceted sound designer, composer, music director, and pianist. Eliza’s original music, arrangements, and sound designs have been featured in theatrical productions throughout the San Diego area with such companies as: La Jolla Playhouse, TuYo Theatre, Moxie Theatre, New Village Arts, Common Ground Theatre. As well as various educational institutions including: San Diego State University, CSU San Marcos, and University of San Diego. Most recently she was Artist in Residence at CSU San Marcos Theatre Arts for the 2021-2022 academic year. Eliza Vedar holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance: Piano from San Diego State University. https://www.elizavedar.com/
Mario Vega is a playwright/lyricist/digital artist from Southern California. He is a graduate from San Diego State University and is currently obtaining his MFA in playwriting at UCLA. He has written the book and lyrics to four full length musicals on top of multiple plays. His work explores Latino identity and the borderlands through lenses of satire and fantasy.
