Bodily Autonomy by Lauren Lee McCarthy

With her thought-provoking “Saliva Bar” art installation, Los Angeles-based Lauren Lee McCarthy examines the current state of bio-surveillance in times of rapid technological development and increased corporate and government monitoring. At the saliva exchange station, visitors can trade their own samples with one another through the assistance of an attendant, inviting active discussions on data privacy, race, gender and class as they pertain to genetic material.

“Saliva Bar” experience is 15 minutes. Explore the gallery before and after.
