LA JOLLA PLAYHOUSE WITHOUT WALLS (WOW) FESTIVAL ARTIST SUBMISSION INFORMATION

We invite artists to submit projects for La Jolla Playhouse’s upcoming 2023 Without Walls (WOW) Festival in association with The San Diego Symphony.

The four-day festival will take place April 27-30, 2023, at the Rady Shell at Jacobs Park in San Diego. We are looking for artists who create new works of theatre, music, dance, live art, performance installation, family programming, visual art experiences, and virtual and augmented reality. Projects should be site-specific/site-responsive in nature, or create unique immersive and/or participatory experiences that push the boundaries of the audience/artist relationship. We are excited about projects that provide a unique lens to the city and spaces or re-imagine and recontextualize different sites. We encourage applicants with a unique perspective inclusive of race, color, religion, familial status, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, age, neurodiversity and physical ability to apply. We are committed to diversity in all areas of our work, on and off stage.

The festival takes place at different locations each year. For the 2023 festival, we are looking for productions that can take place mostly outdoors (not on the mainstage). The production can move the audience to different locations or can be set in one area. We are also looking for boutique productions that can fit into smaller spaces (as long as the cumulative audience capacity for the 4 days is 200+) and spectacle performances that can accommodate 500+ people per performance.

All submissions are due by Sunday, July 31, 2022.
You will be contacted by an LJP staff member if the project submitted moves into Phase 2 of the process, which includes a budget breakdown and timeline. If you need assistance of any kind with this application, please email us at [email protected].
