Festival Operations

FESTIVAL RUNNER: Are you up for anything? Festival Runners will work alongside La Jolla Playhouse staff to fill in wherever they are most needed. This volunteer will be required to walk, lift and carry things. Do you have theatrical production or event management experience? Let us know!

DRESSING ROOM MINDER: The Dressing Room for the Show Imaging Festival Stage will be home to numerous acts and artists including local, national, and international performers! Requires a detail-oriented, strong communicator. This volunteer will be asked to check-in artists, keep the dressing room stocked, and maintain a welcoming space for performers.

Production

HIDDEN STORIES: Hidden Stories needs two volunteers: one to kick off the performance by passing out headphones to audiences and one to participate during the show. This ‘invisible performance’ follows seemingly ordinary people and objects as they make their way through the streets and pathways of the Liberty Station. Volunteers on Hidden Stories should be excited to interact with audiences. A great attitude required. The ability to speak French is a perk.

IKAROS: From NYC-based company Third Rail Projects is a collection of dreams, myth, poetry, dance, and performance – and we need volunteers to watch over audience and equipment to make it all possible!

PORTALS – INTERACTIVE CONNECTED TREES: A fan of interactive visual art? The installation Portals – Interactive Connected Trees needs a Load-In/Load-Out Volunteer to help them get set up and pack up. This will involve assisting the artist directly with installation – a great opportunity to work directly with one of our amazing artists! Volunteers should be comfortable with heights. Perk if you are familiar with electrical systems and technology.

BOATS: The fun-loving production Boats needs a volunteer to help them get set up before and put away after each performance. In Boats, children join crews to fight pirates and sharks and steer their ship on the high seas (without ever leaving dry land). This volunteer should love children, imagination, and play. Must be able to stand and lift light objects.

Guest Services

USHERS: Ushers will check-in patrons for ticketed performances, track attendance, and providing directional assistance. They will assist with patron seating for ticketed performances and keep the flow of traffic moving efficiently for non-seated performances.  A cheerful disposition is required for this position. Some Usher roles may need to stand or be outside for the duration of their shift. Please note any accommodations you would benefit from so we can match you with an appropriate position.

EDUCATION VOLUNTEER: The La Jolla Playhouse Education team will be out in full force to provide free family programming for families with children to supplement festival productions. This role may include helping families at a central craft station, assisting Education staff around the festival site, and guiding children on a Treasure Hunt. Must enjoy interacting with families and children.
