Mandell Weiss Theatre

by Lynn Nottage
directed by Liesl Tommy
A co-production with The Huntington Theatre Company and Berkeley Repertory Theatre

Winner of the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Drama

As a civil war rages in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mama Nadi runs a canteen where any soldier can put down his weapon and spend an evening in the company of beautiful women — for a price. But the good-time atmosphere of the brothel cannot hide the battles waged on the women who work there. This Pulitzer Prize-winning play is a hopeful, humorous and deeply-affecting portrait of a group of courageous women who are surviving in the midst of a civil war in Africa.
