ACCESS Performance Series

"This innovative program at La Jolla Playhouse gives disabled patrons the same privilege we all enjoy of attending world-class productions at one of the finest theatres in the United States."
- Jim Jenkins, president and CEO of Community Catalysts, 2005

Since the 1996-1997 Season, La Jolla Playhouse has offered its award-winning ACCESS Program, which provides an American Sign Language-interpreted and Audio Described performance for deaf/hard of hearing and blind/low vision audiences.

Each ACCESS performance begins at 1:00 pm with a pre-show sensory tour and a special presentation to provide design information to enhance the production for all patrons. During this presentation, materials used in the set and costumes are made available for our guests to feel, increasing their ability to more fully understand the thematic interplay of the design with the text. In 2005, La Jolla Playhouse's ACCESS Program received the “Catalyst of the Year" Award for service to the disabled community.
